Simply put, the function of emergency ballasts is to provide emergency power backup for lighting egress and pathways during power outages or power interruptions.
Emergency Lighting
Emergency ballasts contain an internal battery with enough power storage to operate one lamp in the emergency mode for a minimum of 90 minutes providing emergency lighting. Functions best when used in conjunction with backup generators as emergency ballasts' power supply is typically designed for a limited time of emergency lighting.
