Tritium Recycling Information
There is a specific process for the recyclingl of old tritium exit signs after they have reached the end of their life span. We offer this Tritium Recycling Service for a fee and will provide all of the necessary documents and detailed instructions for the entire tritium recycling process. This will ensure that the product is recycled and not dumped or stored in landfills or other storage sites, keeping in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
Tritium is a radioactive form of hydrogen. Mixing tritium with a chemical that emits light in the presence of radiation, known as phosphor in a tube (a sealed source), creates a continuous, self-powered light source. The rules and regulations differ from conventional electrical signs, under no condition should these signs be discarded in trash or waste sites. We can dispose of tritium exit signs and other products that contain tritium.
Within 30 days of disposing of a sign, the general licensee is required to file a report to the NRC or Agreement State that includes:
The device manufacturer’s (or distributor’s) name, model number and serial number; the name, address, and license number of the person receiving the device; and the date of the transfer.
